Apple Pay is a secure form of payment as every transaction requires your iPhone or iPad to authenticate with Touch ID or your passcode. Your card number and identity aren’t shared with the merchant and your actual card numbers aren’t stored on your device or on Apple servers. With Apple Pay, instead of using your actual credit and debit card numbers when you add your card, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted, and securely stored in the Secure Element, a dedicated chip in iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. When you make a purchase, the Device Account Number, along with a transaction-specific dynamic security code, is used to process your payment. So your actual credit or debit card numbers are never shared by Apple with merchants or transmitted with payment.

Apple Pay is now accepted at many stores, restaurants, and within some of the most popular apps. For a complete list of merchants who accept Apple Pay, please visit Apple’s site here.

If your Apple device is stolen, you may use the Find my iPhone app to suspend or permanently remove the ability to pay form that device with Apple Pay. Your cards will be suspended or removed from Apple Pay even if your device is offline and not connected to a cellular or Wi-Fi network. Also, call First Metro Bank Electronic Banking Department to assist in deactivating your Apple Pay capabilities at 256-386-0600.
