First Metro Bank is an independent, community bank serving the residents of Northwest Alabama,
primarily those who reside in Colbert, Franklin, and Lauderdale counties. In 2006, the bank
has eight locations in Muscle Shoals, Tuscumbia, Russellville, Florence (3), Lexington, and
the Greenhill community in rural Lauderdale County. While our job is to meet your financial
needs, each employee is involved in community groups and organizations to make Northwest
Alabama a better place to live, work and play.
First Metro Bank was founded in 1988. A group of local investors led by Russellville native
Billy Bowling chartered the bank with approximately $4,290,000 in initial capital. The original
subscription involved 400 shareholders, with each one limited to no more than 2.3% ownership.
The local investors wanted First Metro to be a true community bank, where its shareholders were
community members who reside in Northwest Alabama.
Since the formation of First Metro Bancorp, First Metro has experienced tremendous growth. Today,
First Metro Bank has grown to over $300 million in asset size, $190 million in loans to local individuals
and businesses and employs over 100 community members. Moreover, products and services are structured
to meet all the financial needs of the community, including and not limited to the same services
of large regional banks. While many independent banks have not been able to withstand the competition
of larger banks and credit unions, First Metro has grown and profited each year since its formation
in 1988 and has become one of the fastest growing banks in the state of Alabama.
First Metro Bank has remained committed to being a viable community bank, with many of our employees
and officers involved in the respective community in which they serve. The Board, management and
staff of First Metro Bank are committed to the bank's continued success and serving the financial
needs of the community in a friendly, hometown manner.
